Jay stood silently, gazing up at the perfect sky from her place on the just-closed library steps. It was a dark purpley back, pink streaked and dotted with white snowflakes that gently and slowly drifted to the earth.
Her deep green eyes trailed after a single snowflake as it hit the ground with no noise at all. She smiled slightly, then began walking home, trying to remain on the paved walkway which had yet to be really buried by snow.
Her brown and blue-streaked hair whipped in the wind, completely disrupting her careful styling, but she paid no mind to that. She had better things to think about, really. A little windblown hair never hurt anyone.
Gripping the straps of her black backpack tightly, and pulling her black jacket tighter over her black Anberlin shirt, she took off running. She sped down the street, heading for home. Her backpack bounced on her back quite painfully, and her black and red Vans left deep footprints in the ammassed snow.
Pausing at a streetlight to catch her breath, she looked up at the sky again, spotted with snowflakes, still streaked with pinks and purples. The streetlight suddenly illuminated, casting a circle of light around it. Jay put an arm over her eyes, wincing.
"Let there be light," she muttered sarcastically before beginning to walk again, less in a hurry now, her body grown used to the snow. Well, as much as can be expected. Suddenly, she crashed headfirst into a tall figure, falling back into the snow with a thump. "Sorry," she grumbled.
"Jay?"
She looked up, slightly confused. "Yes...?"
The tall guy smiled brightly. He looked on the Asian side, with dark almond eyes and jet black hair with a slight case of bedhead. But, in the good way. He was wearing a black T-shirt under a black and green letterman's jacket, or so it looked like, and green cargo pants, his shoes hidden in snow. "Do you remember me, Jay?"
She stared. "No..." She slowly stood, brushing snow off of her black jeans, and looked up at him, only reaching his shoulder.
He made a face. "That's so like you, Jay." He swept her into a hug, kissing her forehead. "God, I've missed you.."
She wrestled out of his grasp, glaring. "I don't even know you!" At the look of heartbreak on his face, she faltered.
He sighed, then smiled lightly. "You'll remember when you wake up... Speaking of..." He took off his jacket, revealing the wiry arms underneath, and draped it over her shoulders and backpack. "So you'll have a piece of me with you."
A buzzing sound began hising in Jay's ear, and he frowned. "That's our cue to part ways. Good-bye, my dearest Jay. We'll meet again, I...."
"Wait, wake up? Wha-" Jay's world went black then, his face the last thing she saw. His face and that perfect, perfect sky.
When she jolted awake, she was in her room. Snow flew everywhere as she sat up, displaced from the black and green jacket it had been dusted onto, which was covering Jay.
'Wait. I don't have a black and green jacket...'
She shook her head and stood, walking to her window to peer out at the gentle snow falling. A fresh rose was on her desk, and written in pen on the sheet of paper underneath it were the words,'Promise. I love you.'
She stared, openmouthed, then it clicked, and she smiled softly. "Madd..." she whispered, tracing the rose with her finger,"SIlly Madd..."
She pulled a sheet of paper from her notebook and began writing. She had had an idea....
'When I stepped out of the library into the dark evening, I had three things on my mind. The crystalline snow, the perfect sky overhead, and if I would see him today...'
