It was cold, that was the first thing I noticed as I came to my senses. I opened my eyes to see frosted glass in front of my face. I couldn't move, only breathe and stare at the glass.
"X2781? And you responsive?" X2781? Who was that? And who was calling that... name? What was going on?!
"X2781?" Ugh... They needed to stop. Finally, I forced my mouth open, asking the first question that came to my mind,"Where am I?"
Several people burst into cheers. "She's awake!" I heard a man yell,"I'll go alert Mr. Kaiba right away!" Kaiba...? That sounded familiar. Where had I heard that before?
My question was answered a scant few minutes later as I heard a door open and close. "This better be good," an all-too-familiar voice snapped. I tried to place it frantically. I knew I knew him, but I couldn't remember...
Wait. Something was wrong here. I had always prided myself on my superb memory, so to not remember was immediately grounds for suspicion.
"Oh, it is, sir! X2781 is finally responsive!" the excited man announced. I could imagine the man beaming brightly at this... Mr. Kaiba.
"Give me proof."
Silence slowly fell as all attention turned to, I realized, me. I managed a swallow before saying, my mouth dry,"Yes, I'm very much awake... Now where am I? And can you let me out of this thing?!"
"Amazing..." I heard Kaiba murmur,"After days of little to no nutrition, the alien has sufficient energy." Little to no nutrition, huh? No wonder my mouth was dry.
"Maybe you didn't hear me. Can you-"
"Let her out," Kaiba interjected, as though I wasn't even talking. I gritted my teeth as I was able, waiting for the glass to slide away or something.
True to scientific form, the glass slid to the side, revealing a group of white-coated men, and then a chestnut-haired teenager, with cold blue eyes that glared at me. I felt myself withering under his glare, but then straightened. I wasn't going to show him my intimidation.
He was the only one without a lab coat, I realized. Instead he wore this ridiculous floating trench coat and quite an amount of black underneath. Tearing my eyes from him, I looked around, finding myself in what seemed to be a computer lab of some sort.
I took a step down, my bare foot protesting when it hit the cold metal step. Slowly, I worked my way to the floor, the scientists watching me intently, while the teen seemed bored.
"Where am I? Who are you?" I asked as soon as my feet met the floor,"I want to know."
The teen snorted slightly as a slightly balding older man rushed over to me. His hair was snow white, looking over his half-rimmed glasses at me with warm, green-grey eyes. "I'm Dr. Tomoya, the one who's been monitering you the past few days, X2781. That is Mr. Seto Kaiba over there, the one who-"
"That's not my name." I know it was rude to cut him off, but I was slightly angry at that 'name'. He looked slightly surprised and taken aback, so I elaborated. "My name is Siren LaRusse. Not X2781 or whatever."
Kaiba snorted. "How could an alien like you have an earthly name?" he asked. I narrowed my eyes.
Before I could stop myself, I countered,"How could such a nice-looking human be such a jerk?" Realizing what I said, I mentally cringed. Not the best idea.
He looked surprised, and about to make another comment. Before he could, though, Tomoya stepped in, saying,"Well, then, Miss Siren... Where do you come from?" I thought a moment, then realized I didn't know.
"I can't... remember." The words felt hard to say, like I was admitting a loss to a rival. "I see..." Tomoya sounded a bit disappointed at this, but didn't show it in his face.
I suddenly noticed that they were all avoiding looking directly at me, even Kaiba. I didn't understand why, and that bothered me. I looked down, maybe to figure out why. Then I saw why.
I had two options to deal with this issue. Calm and rational, like a civilized person. Or freak out and spazz like a teenage girl under stress. I opted for the second.
"You've let me stand here for how long naked?!" I growled, trying to cover myself with my arms. Tomoya shifted uncomfortably.
"Well, um... we thought you knew-" he began, but my glare silenced him instantly. Suddenly, something long and made of white fabric landed in my arms. I looked up, confused at who had given me the coat.
I was slightly stunned to see none of the scientists had taken pity on me, all still wearing their lab coats. That meant one thing...
"Wear that until you get to your room," Kaiba's voice cut into my thoughts. I looked over at him, confused and surprised. Obligingly and quietly, I slipped the anti-gravity jacket on.
Only to find it was unable to close.
"How is this supposed to help, you JERK?!" I screamed after him as he walked out. I could've sworn I heard him laughing mockingly at my predicament.
It was war now.
"X2781? And you responsive?" X2781? Who was that? And who was calling that... name? What was going on?!
