She felt the wind hit her face as she ran. She didn't know where, she just had to run. Away from them, who mocked her and insulted her. She felt her eyes burn with tears again. They fell, unnoticed, hitting the ground. Her feet pounded the pavement of the back-country road, their laughter echoing in her mind.
Even her friends, her closest companions. Laughing, like the rest. Telling her secrets behind her back. Stabbing at her heart, tearing it into small pieces. Bit by bit. None of them cared. Lost in her thoughts, the tip of her sneaker caught on the asphalt and she fell, sprawled in the middle of the road.
Her tears came quickly and bitterly, slapping against the yellow lines. Cars honked their horns as the swerved around her, but she felt no need to move. I swear, I'm no different than any of you! she wanted to scream out,Please believe me! No answer, of course. She hadn't expected one.Tiny droplets of rain began hitting her back and head, attempting with full force to drench her, and beginning to succeed. She let out a shaky breath she hadn't known she'd been holding.
Then, all of a sudden, both her arms were picked up by unknown hands. Two sets, in fact. Forced, she got to her feet, only to see two boys, and a thin, small girl. Her friends. They'd came for her. They all moved to the sidewalk, where she hugged the girl, and, a bit hesitantly, the boys joined in. None had told anything.
It was all mostly a misunderstanding blown out of proportion. The rain continued falling, but they didn't care. They were all together again. The four against the world. And it would stay that way. Forever....
